This special event will break the current CCC rules, by having an agenda:

  • A conversation with Mary Robinson (former President of Ireland, Chair of The Elders)*. Sharing insight from her new book, Climate Justice: Hope, Resilience, and the Fight for a Sustainable Future, Mary will open the event and explore the case for climate leadership and the opportunities it presents for Irish business, communities and society, and the world at large. Mary will close with a unique book signing session, providing us with some extra festive sparkle.

  • Screening of Living the Change, a recently launched sustainability feature length documentary film, which “explores solutions to the global crises we face today… through the inspiring stories of people pioneering change in their own lives and in their communities in order to live in sustainable and regenerative way”. Focused on New Zealand, this offers an ideal opportunity to explore solutions that could be transferable to Ireland.

  • Festive drinks reception, network through the night to the late hours with a substantial allocated complimentary bar (first come, first served!), and close with a party into the late hours!!

Huge thank you to our Main Partner Crowley Carbon, Networking Partner Natural Capital Partners, Cocktail Partner Marks & Spencer Ireland, and Event Partner Green Belt, for supporting and ensuring this event is funded and can go ahead! Thank you to Vita for offsetting the carbon footprint of the event to net zero via their award winning cookstove project in Eritrea and Ethiopia.

Green Belt Limited

Green Belt Ltd, was founded in 1982 to provide forestry management services to investment houses and pension funds. Green Belt has since achieved and maintained its position as Ireland’s largest private forestry group. In its 36 years, Green Belt has established 165,000 hectares (ha) of private forestry across Ireland for more than 9,000 clients .

Green Belt currently provides forestry management services to over 125,000 ha c.€500,000,000 in asset value and plants an average of 2,000 ha of new forests in Ireland each year with a species profile of 63% conifer and 37% native broadleaf. Its management portfolio now includes plantations owned by thousands of Irish farmers plus private and institutional investors.

More recently Green Belt have been directly involved in establishing 137 ha of Native Woodland in partnership with Natural Capital Partners for Microsoft, to act as an additional incentive to encourage Irish land owners to “go native” and establish new native woodlands.

Vita

Vita, an Irish development agency working in Ethiopia and Eritrea for the past 30 years and we have set up the Vita Green Impact Fund. This is a climate mitigation social impact investment platform to support rural African communities with high-impact low-carbon energy and water solutions. This will deliver measurable results on UN SDGs Nos. 3, 6 ,7 and 13 relating to improved health and access to water and energy.

In Eritrea Vita has delivered over 43,000 fuel efficient cook stoves through its unique community-led approach. The traditional method of cooking -three rocks on the ground - with it’s open flame and voracious appetite for fuel was detrimental for both the health of families and their living environments. The stove is 60% more fuel efficient than the traditional stove. An added benefit is the amount of drudgery it saves and the subsequent time liberated for women and children.

Vita supplies the moulds and the knowledge, but the women themselves contribute towards the cost of each unit, as well as building each one with the help of the other village women. This method of involving the whole community ensures that no individual family is left out.
